Crossover cars 2015 full#
The auto industry is full of jargon and it can make things a bit confusing. Infiniti Q60 – a softened Nissan Z that’s neither sporty enough to be a sports car, nor comfy enough to be a luxury coupe.ĭid we miss any particularly egregious autos? Go ahead and single them out in the Comments section.įollow us on, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. What’s the difference between a crossover and an SUV?.Nissan Rogue Select – a carried over version of the previous-generation Rogue why not just buy a low-mileage used version and save money?.Mazda5 – small and underpowered, it’s the least-practical minivan on the market.Kia K900 – Kia’s largest and poshest sedan is priced well into luxury-car territory, but without the segment’s brand cachet or ownership perks.Honda Ridgeline – not so much a pickup truck as a midsize crossover SUV with an open cargo hold rendered irrelevant by the new Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon midsize pickups.Lexus LS 600h L – a hybrid luxury sedan that’s $38,000 costlier than its gas-only counterpart it’s incrementally quicker, but only gets an additional 3-mpg in city driving.Had we been padding the list purely on gut reactions we might have worked in a few oddball vehicles we tend to take exception with, including: Otherwise, we’re taking a broad range of models to task, from small and unaccommodating economy cars like the Smart ForTwo, Scion iQ and the Mitsubishi i-MiEV and Mirage, to big and pricey, though not exactly class-leading, luxury models like the BMW 7 Series, Cadillac XTS and the Lincoln MKS and MKT.Īgain, each of these models wound up on our cars to avoid list primarily on the basis of hard data from some of the most respected sources in the auto industry. One of the automaker’s entries, the iconic Jeep Wrangler SUV, could rank highly on any number of the industry’s “best” lists – especially those for exceptional off-road vehicles, top resale values or most-affordable convertibles – but instead gets singled out here for its ungainly road manners and paltry passenger comfort, among other factors. Crossovers and SUVs from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles represent a full third of all slots on the list, though this is largely due to a handful of models – namely the Jeep Compass and Patriot and the Dodge Journey – that have languished for way too long with largely cosmetic improvements while other models in the corporate fleet received well-executed full makeovers. Finally, we weighed in with no less an expert source than Consumer Reports to check which models received particularly paltry scores for performance and overall value.Īs it turned out, the cars, trucks and crossovers that comprise our list of cars to avoid are split nearly evenly among domestic- and import-branded models. Power for the latest results in the company’s initial quality and long-term reliability surveys and its scores for performance and design rankings for resale value depreciation came from the automotive valuation experts at ALG. (Full disclosure: we typically put around 80 models through their respective paces in a given year, with all of them provided by their respective automakers.)

Thus we’ve based our list of 15 New Cars To Avoid – highlighted with supporting data in the accompanying slide show – on a bevy of reliable sources, tempered with the results of our own test drives.

Now it’s devilishly easy to simply single out models that we just don’t like for one reason or another, but if we’re going to point the bony finger of j’accuse at a given automaker’s product line, it should be for good reason. Though some may not have been particularly well conceived or executed in the first place, many of the models we’ve singled out have just languished in the market for far too long without a major redesign. So for this, our perennial pillory of the most forgettable new cars on the market, we’ve compiled a rogue’s gallery of models that, while they’re not particularly horrible in and of themselves, simply tend to fall short with regard to tangibles like performance, value and reliability.
